INGETEAM has developed a simulation tool that will allow to make a detailed analysis, the dimesioning of the recovery systems and a previous economic study. Therefore, we can offer an investment planning associated to the raiways system analyzed .
The system incorporates a double converter connected to the catenary, in parallel with the substation’s rectifier to the existing transformer.
The function of the system is to constantly monitor the state of the catenary, converting recoverable energy into high quality AC power and subsequently injecting it to the general three-phase grid.
Moreover, the system also controls the three-phase grid’s harmonics, that act as an active front, allowing for a reversible action to provide energy to the catenary during power consumption peaks, with quality power consumption for the AC grid.
Design criteria
The simulation tool developed by Ingeteam Traction performs a prior energy balance of the railway system, simulates the results of the implementation of the recovery system and consequently carries out the correct dimensioning of the system, together with a prior detailed economic study.

Main advantages
Its use does not require modifications in the substation’s current installations, offers the possibility of re-using high-cost components, like transformers.
The operation of this system is transparent to the existing system, thus in breakdown situations it can be isolated without interrupting system operations.
Components do not require exhaustive maintenance, since sensitive components, like condensers, are separated from harmonic currents.
It is not affected by short-circuits in the catenary.
The power of the system is programmed based on the previewed saving and not on total installed power, thus reducing costs.
The power transferred to the three-phase grid is of high quality and generated from stable DC voltage.
It can be used in high-voltage grid environments, without affecting the quality parameters of collected energy.
Moreover, the device may be used as an active filter to regulate the substation’s consumption (resulting in savings due to the improvement of the Cos phi).
The device can be used during power consumption peaks, providing power to the catenary with quality AC grid consumption.
With this device the train’s power saving function can be separated from operating function. |
